Between 2014 and 2017, Susan embarked on a transformative journey that ultimately led to the establishment of RockeInsights. This pivotal journey was driven by Susan's profound dedication to her work, having spent over two decades working with adult and predominantly young offenders, who for diverse reasons had come into the criminal and youth justice systems. Throughout her extensive career, she consistently observed recurring cycles and themes that piqued her naturally curious mind.

Susan's path took a significant turn when she made the decision to pursue a Master’s degree in social Anthropology, specialising in "The Anthropology of Children, Youth & Education," at Brunel University London. This academic pursuit allowed her to delve deeper into the intricate complexities of the recurring themes that had captured her attention.

In 2017, Susan embarked on immersive fieldwork, a cornerstone of her journey. She spent several months within the vibrant setting of a primary school class in Hillingdon. Additionally, she dedicated several months to accompanying a young Ghanaian family in their daily activities and cultural rituals. These experiences and observations culminated in Susan's final dissertation, which argued for the dynamic interplay between a child's identity—whether rooted in religion, ethnicity, culture, or social differences as perceived by others—and their agency within the realm of education and learning.

The anecdotal evidence Susan collected during this period revealed a compelling truth. It became evident that when a child's identity, in all its forms, was not merely recognised but actively affirmed, valued, and thoughtfully integrated into their learning environment, a remarkable transformation occurred. These children exhibited heightened engagement, enthusiasm, and a newfound enjoyment of their educational journey. Beyond this, their peers thrived in the inclusive atmosphere, as it fostered a space free from disruption, negativity, and exclusion, not only within the classroom but also in various school spaces like the dinner hall, playground, and assembly hall.
